StoryJohn born in Dromard, County Sligo worked as a miner before the war in Boldon Colliery, he was called up on the 23rd of March 1914 age 44 in the General Service of the Tyneside Irish Regiment he was then transferred to the East Yorkshire Regiment and again on the 13th of November 1916 he was transferred to the army reserve due to him being employed as a miner which at the time was a reserved occupation. On the 24th September 1917 he rejoined the East Yorkshire Regiement but was discharged from the army on the 7th November 1917 on medical grounds due to Myalgia. John was married to Margaret McGee in 1912 and had Sons John b28/8/1901 of 39 Arnold street a colliery hewer died 1977, Thomas b11/12/1904 died 1971 and Michael B2/3/1907. John of 21 Wilfred Street Boldon Colliery died age 72 in 1941.
