| Story | Pilot Zygmunt Hohne a member of the Polish Air Force was on a Formation training exercise with another Polish Pilot over Cumberland, Due to very low cloud cover both aircraft flew at high speed into a hill at Horn Crag, Scafell in Cumberland. He was a member of 55 Opertional Training Unit (OTU) flying a Type 1 Hurricane. He died on the 12th August 1941 and is buried at Castletown Cemetery in Hylton. Remains of the crash can still be seen having been turned into a memorial
