Story | Thomas son of William Hartford b1868 a "Railway Goods Checker" of 30 Maple street Sunderland on the 1901 census.By 1911 the family had moved to 80 Wansbeck Road Jarrow with William promoted to "Goods Foreman". Now a Widower William had Children JAne Graham b1886, Anne Elizabeth b1895, William b1898, Edwin b1901, Alfred b1902, Lilian b1904 and Ernest b1905. By 1939 his father william had retired to 1 garden lane East Boldon. When Thomas enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps 11/7/16 his next of kin William (father) was living in Ferndale Aveneu East Boldon. It appears on his 1st service record 922337 his occupation was clerk then in 1918 he was promoted to 2nd Lieutant and transfered to the General List as a Pilot 23905. It appears he flew a number of sortee's 77Sq, 47 wing, BEF and was Wounded 17/8/18. After the war Thomas was employed as a Clerk at the Mercantile Dry Dock Ltd Jarrow.
