Story | Robert originally from Stanley County Durham was occupied as a Coalminer Deputy at Boldon Pit on the 1911 Census. He was living at Blacks Buildings Station road Boldon with wife Isabella b1878, daughters Jane b1903 and Elizabeth b1908, Robert Lee Swinburne nephew b 1890 a Coal Miner Putter. By the time of his call up in 1915 Robert was a Licensed Victualler living at the Red Lion in West Boldon. Due to his age and marital status he was placed in the Army Reserve home service. By 1916 he was mobilized and transfered to the West Yorkshire Regiment where he was later posted to Malta. Due to medical grounds he was declared unfit and returned to home service in 1917.
