Story | Joseph Spain Born Sunderland An architect before the war most likely working with his brother Jacob a house builder. Son to Father Jacob Spain Ship owner b1835 Brothers Jacob b1866, Douglass b1876 a Manufacturers agent (trains), Sister Elizabeth b1855 and Mary b1862 also nephew Albert Spain b1890 ship owners Clerk. Married to Laura Barnes of Sunderland in 1901. Joseph a Captain the 6th Battalion DLI in France rose to the rank of Colonel Spain and was for some years the commander of the 7th Territorial Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry, he was awarded an OBE in the New years Honours list 1933. Joseph died march 12 1935 at "Greystone" 315 Flanshaw Lane Wakefield aged 64 leaving a widow and two Sons
