Story | Captain J Gordon Duram appointed chief of Boldon Auxiliary Fire Service March 1939. James held the rank of captain in the 1st World War and was awrded the Military Cross. As a youth he went to schools in France and Germany, the languages of which he could speak fluently. A Freemason, treasurer of the houghten-on Spring Conserative Association he was also Selected as Magistrate june 1939 and head of the the firm Gordon Durham and Co. Buidlers. In June of 1940 it was reported was missing beleived killed was engaged on a military mission in Belgium. Capt Durahm managed to get back to ostend where he collected several other members of the mission. They embarked at Ostendon the Abukir but the ship was torpedoed and sunk. James left a wife and 2 children. |
