Story | George a ships captain Born in Bombay India, was employed in the Merchant Navy on board the SS Clearfield. He was married to Mary B Gaine b1866 with sons James S Gaine b1892, Arnold b1893, Ernest b1901, g donald b1903 and C Cyril b1907. The SS Clearfield was requisitioned for Admiralty service and was on route to Invergordon - Hampton Roads when she was Sunk off Flannan Island,in the Outer Hebrides on the 24th of Cotboer 1916 by uboat U55 Wilhelm Werner. The clearfield was a 4,229 ton Tanker built in 1909 by Tyne Iron SB.Co., Ltd., Newcastle and was operated by Hunting SS. Co., Ltd. (Hunting & Son), Newcastle. All 31 hands on board were lost.
